UTM builder

Add source, medium and campaign tags to a link so your analytics shows where visitors came from. Works for a whole list of links too.

1Page URL

2Where the traffic comes from

Source, medium and campaign are always needed. Keyword and ad content are optional.

Your link

Spaces in tags are encoded as %20, the address and the # anchor stay as they were. Everything is built in your browser, links are not sent anywhere.

What UTM parameters are

UTM parameters are tags at the end of a link that tell Google Analytics, Yandex Metrica and other tools where a visitor came from. Without them, a click from a newsletter, a Telegram post or a social ad often ends up as "direct" traffic in reports, and you can't tell what worked.

There are five tags. Source (utm_source) is the platform: google, facebook, newsletter. Medium (utm_medium) is the type of traffic: cpc, email, social. Campaign (utm_campaign) is the name of the promotion or launch. Keyword (utm_term) and ad content (utm_content) help tell search terms and creative versions apart within one campaign.

How to name your tags

Use Latin letters, lowercase and no spaces, and separate words with an underscore or a hyphen. Analytics is case sensitive: Facebook and facebook become two different sources. Agree on names with your team once and stick to them, and you won't have to clean up reports by hand.

Where tagged links are useful

In social and messenger ads, newsletters, influencer posts, video descriptions and flyers with a QR code. For Google Ads auto-tagging is usually enough, but UTM tags help if you need the data in other analytics tools too. Don't tag links within your own site: it breaks the session and distorts the sources.

  • Source, medium and campaign: utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. Without a source, Google Analytics ignores the tags. Add keyword and ad content when you want to compare search terms or creatives within one campaign.

  • Yes. The builder keeps the parameters already in the URL and adds the tags after them. The anchor after # stays at the very end, as it should. If the URL already had UTM tags, they are replaced with the new ones.

  • Analytics is case sensitive: Telegram and telegram end up as two different sources, and the numbers get split across two rows of the report. The tool warns you about capital letters or spaces in tags and fixes them with one click.

  • If Google Ads is linked to Google Analytics, auto-tagging (the gclid parameter) passes the data on its own, so manual tags aren't needed. Tags are useful if you also track traffic in another analytics tool or a CRM.

  • Switch to "List of links" and paste the URLs, one per line. The same tags are added to all of them. Copy the whole result or download it as a .txt or .csv file for a spreadsheet.

  • Click "Make a QR code": our QR code generator opens in a new tab with your tagged link already filled in. It's a handy way to count visits from flyers, packaging and signs.
