How to make a photo sharper
When sharpening helps
Photos resized for a website, screenshots, document scans, product shots. Sharpen last, after cropping and resizing.
Don't overdo it
Too much sharpening creates halos and noise, especially on skin and sky. Compare with the before and after slider and stop when the photo looks natural.
For marketplaces
Crisp product photos sell better. Upload the whole series - the same sharpening goes on every photo, and you can download them as an archive.

Sharpening helps when a photo is slightly soft: after resizing, shooting indoors or through glass. Strong motion blur can't be fixed this way - details that aren't in the shot won't appear.
For a typical photo, strength 80-150 and radius 1-2. For large photos and landscapes you can raise the radius to 3-4. If bright halos appear along edges, lower the strength.
We use an unsharp mask, like photo editors do: we find the edges in the photo and boost the difference between their light and dark sides.
