EXIF viewer and metadata remover

See what a photo was taken with, when, and whether it contains the location. Save a copy without metadata in one click. Photos are not uploaded to a server.

Drop photos here or paste from the clipboard (Ctrl+V), up to 20 photos at once Photos are read in your browser and never sent anywhere

Your photos stay with you. Metadata is read and removed right in your browser: files are not uploaded or stored anywhere. JPG, PNG and WebP are saved without recompression if the photo is not rotated. Rotated photos and HEIC are re-saved in high quality, and the rotation is kept.

  3. 3Remove metadataand download a clean copy or a ZIP archive

What is EXIF

EXIF is technical data that a camera or phone writes into a photo: device model, lens, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, date and time, and frame rotation. If location access is on for the camera app, GPS coordinates accurate to a few meters end up there too.

Why remove metadata

A photo sent as a file, posted on a classifieds site or uploaded to the cloud can reveal where you live, where your child goes and when you are home. Many social networks and messengers strip EXIF themselves, but not all and not always: when you send a photo "as a file" or by email, the data stays. Check your photos before posting and save a copy without metadata.

For photographers and sellers

EXIF is handy for reviewing your shots: which settings worked better and which lens you used. Sellers on marketplaces and classifieds should clean product photos: metadata can contain the address of a warehouse or apartment and the camera serial number.

  • No. Files are read right in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. You can safely check personal photos and documents.

  • Most likely it has already been removed. WhatsApp, Telegram (when sent as a photo, not a file), Instagram, VK and many websites do that. Screenshots and images from graphic editors usually have no EXIF at all.

  • JPG, PNG and WebP are usually saved without recompression: the metadata blocks are simply cut out of the file and the image itself does not change. If a photo is rotated via EXIF or is a HEIC, it has to be re-saved, but in high quality, so you will not see a difference.

  • Usually within 5-20 meters: the phone records the spot where the picture was taken. Indoors and among tall buildings the accuracy is lower. The "Open on map" link shows the point on OpenStreetMap.

  • On iPhone: Settings - Privacy - Location Services - Camera - "Never". On Android: in the Camera app settings, turn off "Location tags" or "Save location". You can clean photos you have already taken here.

  • JPG, HEIC and HEIF from iPhone, PNG, WebP, TIFF and AVIF. Besides EXIF, we show whether the file has XMP, a color profile and PNG text fields.
